Go Pink For the Cure Day 2022

At the bottom of this post are the words to the Proclamation making October 7, 2022, Go Pink For The Cure Day in Vilonia. Join us in making Vilonia Pink to help spread awareness for breast cancer by posting a picture of you going pink with the hashtag #makeviloniapink

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS: The Pink Ribbon reminds us that breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women and the second most common cause of cancer deaths in women in the United States. When breast cancer is detected in the early stage, there is a 99% and 86% five-year survival rate for localized and regional female breast cancer, respectively. However, when breast cancer is detected when it is already spread to distant parts of the body, the five-year survival is 29%; and
WHEREAS: Thirty of the seventy-five counties in Arkansas do not have fixed mammography facilities, and this creates a barrier for many women to easily access mammography, thereby possibly increasing their mortality rate; and
WHEREAS: Breast cancer knows no boundaries, be it age, gender, socio-economic status, or geographical location. Despite tremendous progress by research breakthroughs for breast cancer, more than 43,000 people still die of breast cancer every year in the United States; and
WHEREAS: It is estimated that in the United States, 287,850 women and 2,710 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer during 2022, and approximately 43,250 women and 530 men will die of the disease. In Arkansas this year, an estimated 2,440 new cases in females will be detected and 390 female breast cancer deaths will occur; and
WHEREAS: October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and October 7th is designated as Go Pink for the Cure Day to bring awareness of the importance of mammography and to renew its commitment to removing obstacles that prevent women from seeking mammograms;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, PRESTON SCROGGIN, MAYOR of the City of Vilonia, Arkansas, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Arkansas, do hereby proclaim October 7, 2022, as
GO PINK FOR THE CURE DAY
Across the City, and I urge all of my fellow citizens to join me in helping to promote efforts for the prevention and treatment of this deadly disease.
