On Thursday, March 10, 2016, the Central Arkansas Planning and Development District/Arkansas Workforce Center, the City of Vilonia, and the Vilonia Chamber of Commerce hosted a Career Expo and Hiring Fair for students and dislocated workers in Vilonia and surrounding areas. With much success, there were over 170 job seekers attended the event and met with numerous employers about future career opportunities.
This event was designed to provide options for those who wanted specific skill sets that will lead to self-sustaining wages. Educators, employers, service providers and apprenticeship opportunities were available to prospective job seekers.
This event allowed over 30 employers to recruit from a diverse pool of job seekers for full-time positions in a specific field including welding, the medical field, truck driving, manufacturing, electrical, plumbing and HVAC. Potential training and grant opportunities were available for attendees who qualified, which may have opened the door to new career paths for dislocated workers and non-college bound students.
